We strive to be servant ministers to the need of our parish members, the wider community and Church. We strive to serve compassionately those who are hurting or in need, lost or alone, or suffering in any way. We give thanks to God for all the gifts we have received and we celebrate the special events in the lives of parishioners.

An organization that works with the Pastor in spiritual endeavors, unites women of the parish in dedication to the mission of the Church.  Our main purpose is to provide for the needs of the Altar.  It is for all ladies of the parish 18 years of age and older.

The cemetery committee consists of people both to maintain the physical beauty of the grounds as well as people who help with the paper work involved in reserving lots in the church office. A new shed was constructed this past summer at the cemetery with a new riding mower. Other needs are for trimming, trash pick-up & leveling headstones. Workers can serve on their own schedules. A wonderful way to give in honor those who have gone before us.

What is a Vincentian?

The Vincentian is a person seeking the face of Jesus in the poor and marginalized. It is much clearer what St. Vincent was referring to in terms of seeing the face of Jesus after having made a few home visits to people requesting assistance. Jesus has wrinkles, Jesus has buck teeth, Jesus has straggly hair, Jesus is balding, Jesus has sores and Jesus smokes, for goodness sakes! Jesus is an ultraconservative and Jesus is a Democrat. Jesus is us. Our Baptism and our participation in the sacraments invites Jesus to live within us. When this occurs it becomes much easier to see Him in everyone. This tremendous awareness, however, comes with a responsibility.

That responsibility is what Pope Francis is referring to in his recent homily quoted in the The Sunday Visitor, October 5, 2014, “These are the two conditions in order to follow Jesus: hear the word of God and put it into practice. This is the Christian life, nothing more.”  Vincentians are those then that hear this comment of Pope Francis and want to do what they can to live the Christian life.

Vincentians are people who feel called, who are striving for humility and have a passion to love. A sense of humor and a nonjudgmental nature are essential.

If you embrace the tenants of the Society, you can be a member. There are three levels of Vincentian membership: the Active Member will attend up to two meetings per month, the Associate Member may join us on special projects or occasions and the Contributing Member is one who prefers to offer their support through donation.

So what do I have to do to join the Newton Conference? The simplest way is to come to a meeting or give Jim Moore a call.

What is a Home Visit?

Home Visitation is carried out by members of the St Vincent de Paul Society on a voluntary basis. Our members belong to the St. Vincent de Paul, our Lady at Newton Conference, which are comprised of members of St. Mary and Our Lady of Guadalupe parishes who respond to calls for assistance from people in need in the Harvey county area.

Conference members visit people in their homes and help to find the most appropriate response to the person’s or family’s needs. This will involve being a supportive listener and may also include providing food or food vouchers, clothing, furniture, budget support, assistance with utility bills or back to school costs, information and advocacy.

Anyone can access this service providing they have expressed a desire for our assistance. Our members will not visit someone in their home unless they have been invited.  The St Vincent de Paul Society is aware of the immense privilege it is to be invited into someone’s home.  The visits are informal and our members are very sensitive to people’s needs. They can have a friendly chat should someone want to or provide assistance in the form of material or financial help where needed.

Home visitation is a way by which people can be supported and encouraged to take control of their lives. It allows members the privileged opportunity to enter another person's home and life, to accompany them as they move forward.
